Suspected drunken driver hits power pole in Sumner, flees scene

Staff writerJuly 31, 2013

Sumner police are looking for a woman who fled the scene after crashing her pickup truck into a power pole early this morning, causing a power outage.

The accident happened about 12:30 a.m. near the 13600 block of Valley Avenue East and Houston Road.

When police arrived, the driver was gone. Witnesses said the woman was 20-30 with blond hair. She was wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

The collision knocked out power to several neighborhoods, including the city’s north industrial area. Puget Sound Energy crews are working to restore electricity.

Police spokeswoman Carmen Palmer said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

Anyone with information on the woman behind the wheel is asked to call Sumner police at 253-863-384 or the Tip Line at 253-299-5678.
