Communities will come together Tuesday to mark National Night Out

Staff writerAugust 5, 2013

It’s a night of togetherness, meant to draw neighbors together and push criminals out.

Tuesday is National Night Out, an annual summertime event celebrated across the country with the intent of heightening awareness of crime and strengthening community ties by helping neighbors meet others in the area.

More than 60 parties are registered in Tacoma alone, ranging from block parties to larger events. Events are also planned in Fife, Spanaway, Puyallup, Parkland, Midland, Orting and Edgewood.

This is the 30th year for National Night Out.

Law enforcement officers and firefighters are scheduled to visit several of the planned parties, which often feature food, music and games.
