Crews will temporarily reopen a five-mile section of state Route 7 this weekend for increased traffic, according to the state Department of Transportation.
That part of the highway has been closed since July while workers build a permanent debris containment wall in Alder Canyon, where past landslides occurred.
The closure between Alder and La Grande is scheduled to last through November but WSDOT will reopen the section of SR 7 when heavier-than-normal traffic is expected.
It will reopen at 7 a.m. Thursday and close 6 a.m. Tuesday. The highway will also reopen for Labor Day weekend.
