Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 26-year-old man suspected of prostituting a woman on

Court Commissioner Craig Adams ordered the man held in lieu of $7,500 bail Wednesday after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree promoting prostitution.

Police first came in contact with the woman while investigating a domestic assault Aug. 5. They were told she was involved in prostitution and noticed she had a black eye, which she said was caused by her boyfriend, according to charging papers.

Detectives decided to further investigate the prostitution allegation and searched until they found the woman’s photo.

They set up a meeting at a Lakewood motel and arrested the alleged pimp when he showed up driving the woman. A key to a motel room was found in his pocket, court records show.

The man initially denied being involved in prostitution but later admitted he helped the woman post ads and arrange meet-ups with men “because he felt sorry for her,” documents state.
