A soldier's military medals are among the stolen property linked to a Pierce County couple suspected of 59 burglaries since June 2012, Sammamish police said Monday.
The couple, a 26-year-old man and woman of the same age, are suspected of burglaries from Marysville to Tigard, Ore., including in the Tacoma area and elsewhere in Pierce County, Sammamish police said.
A South Hill storage unit Sammamish police served a search warrant on Aug. 6 contained 66 bags, bins, safes and suitcases full of stolen property, Sgt. Jessica Sullivan said.
Law enforcement found jewelry, silver, sports memorabilia and personal photos and documents, in addition to a bag with a soldier's Purple Heart and Bronze Star military medals.
The male suspect and his girlfriend were arrested. He is in King County Jail, and she was booked and released, Sullivan said.
Police expect the couple, who Sullivan said had been living in various Tacoma-area motels, to be charged with residential burglary, theft and possession of stolen property.
The search warrant resulted from a joint investigation with Bellevue police.
About two weeks ago the 26-year-old man was identified from surveillance footage of a Bellevue home that was burglarized, Sullivan said.
A receipt law enforcement found while serving a search warrant on the couple's vehicle led them to the storage unit, Sullivan said.
Detectives have been contacting victims and are making plans to return the stolen items.
