Car strikes traffic light, closing off-ramp in Puyallup

A traffic light was damaged at South Meridian and SR 512.


A collision has shut down a major intersection in Puyallup, police said, causing major backups.

At least one vehicle struck a traffic light on the eastbound off-ramp of South Meridian and state Route 512about 8 a.m. The light is now hanging by wires.

Crews are at the scene fixing the light.

Officers are encouraging drivers to use other routes.

UPDATE as of 9:14 a.m.: One lane of southbound Meridian is open but the eastbound SR 512 off-ramp remains closed. The traffic light is still out.
