A nonprofit group is hosting a one-day festival in Frederickson to raise money to help build a park in the unincorporated community east of Spanaway.
The Frederickson Clover Creek Community Council is hosting the first Freddie Fest at Sound Life Church at 3425 176th Street East on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will include live entertainment, a car show, a chili contest, kids activities and more than 40 vendors selling food and other products.
Admission to the event is free, but the proceeds from the car show and trophy sponsorship will benefit several causes, said event coordinator Kate Lowry.
Lowry, who owns Ricky J’s Restaurant in Frederickson, said half the money will benefit the effort to build Cross Park, on land near Military Road East that residents Stan and Joan Cross sold to the county in 2003.
Frederickson is several miles away from the nearest parks in East Pierce County. The closest one is Spanaway Park, which is more than five miles away.
The rest of the event’s proceeds will benefit FCCCC and Teen Challenge, a group that helps at-risk teens.
