Family of five injured in Frederickson house fire

Staff writerAugust 20, 2013

A family of five was injured this morning after the home they rented Sunday in Frederickson caught on fire, according to Graham Fire & Rescue.

The two-alarm fire was reported about 5 a.m. in the 17200 block of 74th Avenue, just across the street from Frederickson Elementary School. Firefighters were on a nearby call and quickly arrived to find the family standing outside covered in soot.

“The family barely got out of this fire,” Assistant Chief Steve Richards said. “This was a close call for the family.”

The father was listed in serious condition at St. Joseph Medical Center; the mother is in serious condition at Tacoma General; the three children were taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.

Investigators are trying to determine what started the blaze. The house is a total loss.
