Man found dead in fire at vacant Tacoma home

Staff writerAugust 25, 2013

Firefighters found a man's body inside a vacant two-story house that burned early Sunday, according to Tacoma Fire and the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office.

The man has not yet been identified, and investigators are still working to determine how he died.

Crews responded about 5 a.m. to the fire in the 2100 block of South J Street, and as they searched the home, found the man on the second floor.

"The house was not supposed to be occupied at this time," Battalion Chief Ray Manglona said. "We believe the person to be transient, but the whole thing is still under investigation."

What caused the fire is still being determined, he said.
