Tacoma Police: Man shoplifted, hit witness while fleeing

Staff writerAugust 25, 2013

Tacoma police on Sunday had not yet found a man who allegedly shoplifted from a convenience store and drove into a witness who tried to intervene late Saturday, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

The man fled and had been identified but not located by police, she said.

The suspect ran out of the store about 10:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of South 12th Street with beer, the store clerk chased him, and the suspect drove into the witness, Cool said.

The witness was seriously injured, according to police.

The victim’s condition was not immediately available Sunday, and police had not released the victim’s name.
