Medical Examiner identifies man found dead inside Tacoma house fire

Staff writerAugust 26, 2013

Officials identified the body of a man found by firefighters inside a blaze at a vacant Tacoma home Sunday as that of 40-year-old Leslie Butler.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office released his name Monday, but had not yet determined how he died, and did not know where he was from.

Firefighters found Butler, dead, on the upper level of a burning two-story house about 5 a.m. in the 2100 block of South J Street, Tacoma Fire said.

Battalion Chief Ray Manglona said Sunday the house was not supposed to be occupied at the time, and that they believed the person to be transient, but were still investigating.

The cause of the fire was still being investigated Monday.
