Staff writerAugust 31, 2013

Crews responded to a Stadium District parking garage Saturday night for a report of CPR in progress, and arrived to find a man with gunshot wounds who died at the scene, according to Tacoma Fire and Tacoma police.

Fire crews arrived about 10:30 p.m. Saturday near South 4th Street and South Stadium Way, and found someone performing CPR on the man, Battalion Chief Ray Manglona said. They assessed the victim, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Manglona said.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 54-year-old Lawrence Howse of Tacoma, but had not yet confirmed the cause or manner of his death Sunday.

Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said Sunday the department was investigating the death as a homicide, but that police were not yet releasing further information about the case.

She did not confirm who was at the parking garage when police arrived, or whether police had identified and were talking to the person who preformed CPR before medics got to the scene.

She said no arrests had been made, and that investigators had spoken with witnesses.
