An unarmed fugitive a Pierce County Sheriff’s deputy shot outside a Buckley motel Aug. 22 died Friday, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office said Sunday.
Justin Linn, 28, was being treated at an area hospital and was expected to survive, Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer had said after the shooting.
Officials had not yet confirmed the cause and manner of his death Sunday.
Deputy John Delgado shot Linn in the parking lot of the motel in the 400 block of Main Street when Linn reached into his pants for cash and drugs, according the Sheriff’s Department.
Delgado said he shot the man, because he reached into his pants for something and was believed to be armed.
No gun was found on Linn after the shooting. A loaded 9 mm pistol was found in his motel room.
Deputies said they had been looking for Linn, wanted in connection to a July 27 home-invasion robbery in Spanaway, in which he was suspected of shooting a woman.
He allegedly threatened a Buckley family who might have testified against him in that case, authorities said.
Delgado, 37, was on paid administrative leave, per procedure, after the shooting.
He has been with the department for 15 years.
