A man shot to death Monday in his mobile home on the Key Peninsula while allegedly waving a chain saw in the air has been identified as Chase Fenton.
Fenton, 19, of Vaughn, had been drinking all day and was insistent that his fathers girlfriend and her son leave the property in the 16800 block of 82nd Street Northwest, according to the Pierce County Sheriffs Department. Fenton lived on the property with his father.
Its unknown what sparked the argument, but sheriffs spokesman Ed Troyer said thered been past problems between Fenton and his dads girlfriend.
Fenton allegedly grabbed a chain saw and began making threats to cut people. The womans 27-year-old son was elsewhere on the property and came running inside the mobile home with a gun when he heard his mom screaming and the whir of a chainsaw blade.
Troyer said the son was able to talk Fenton into putting down the chainsaw but Fenton allegedly picked it back up, turned it on and began waving it in the air.
The son fired a single shot, striking Fenton in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies did not arrest the shooter. Pierce County deputy prosecutor Phil Sorensen said he will not make a decision about whether to charge the son with the shooting until later this week.
