How will the Seahawks manage expectations?

September 5, 2013

The Seahawks might have snuck up on some teams last year, but that has changed. Seattle is picked by Vegas oddsmakers as one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl.

But Seattle still has one of the youngest teams in the league, and several players have not experienced having a bull’s-eye on their backs. It will be important for Carroll, who was used to such attention during his time at USC, to convey the attitude and focus needed to succeed.

“When we’re preparing now, we understand that there are high expectations, and I’ve tried to help these guys completely understand that, and embrace it and understand that we want that to be normal,” Carroll said.

“That’s where we want to be, so we don’t look to duck from that or try to get out of that at all. That’s part of what happens when you get to be pretty good. Managing that is important, and them managing that as we go and as the season starts to put itself together is a challenge. I think that we have them in the right mindset to handle a good season.

“We’re not thinking anything other than that we’re going to play well, and we’re going to see if we can get some wins and see what happens with that.”
