The family of 25-year-old Austin Smith is raising funds to give the man, whose body was found last week on the Puyallup River, a proper burial, cousin Paul Powers said.
Friends and family held a memorial service in August for Smith, who went missing while inner-tubing July 1.
Now that his body has been recovered, they need further funds for a burial, Powers said.
They’ve raised $778 of their $10,000 goal with the online fundraiser, and Thursday had 4 days left to accept donations on the website.
A date for the service has not yet been set.
“He was a very giving and caring person,” Powers said. “Loved to fish, loved the outdoors.”
