Motorcyclist killed after flipping in Spanaway

Staff writerSeptember 13, 2013

An Auburn rider was killed Thursday night after losing control of his motorcycle while going around a corner in Spanaway, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said Friday.

The accident happened about 9:45 p.m. in the 4600 block of 218th Avenue East.

Brian Spengler, 40, was riding north when he approached a slight left corner, skidded and flipped his motorcycle, deputies said. Speed was not believed to be a factor in the crash, they said.

“It appeared Brian may not have been familiar with the corner and started to skid, losing control of the Harley when he realized it was a corner,” Troyer said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
