SR 512 at Canyon Road reopens after man was dangling from overpass

Staff writerSeptember 17, 2013

State troopers have blocked off both directions of state Route 512 at Canyon Road as authorities try to talk down a man dangling from the overpass.

A passerby called 911 about 9:30 a.m. after seeing the man. Troopers are blocking the freeway while Pierce County sheriff's deputies speak with the man. Traffic is being diverted to Canyon Road and back onto SR 512, trooper Guy Gill said.

UPDATE as of 11:06 a.m.: The man on the overpass has been taken into custody, Gill said. All lanes of SR 512 are now open.
