If you'd like an introduction into how a new low-cost virtual health care system introduced this week by Tacoma's Franciscan Health System works in practice, the health care provider has just posted a video showing a typical doctor-patient interaction.
The video is available here.
The system replaces hands-on examinations in routine health care situations in which the patient feels confident to consulting a medical professional about an illness over the phone or via a computer video chat.
The sole cost of the consultation is $35 paid by the patient.
Doctors and nurse practioners can offer advice or prescribe prescriptions or refer the patient to an urgent care facility, a regular doctor or to an emergency department.
A full explanation is available in a story in Tuesday's News Tribune.
