When the owners of Tacoma's La Bella nail spa return to their hometown of Vung Tau in Vietnam in January for a visit, they hope to visit a new community dock built with funds donated by themselves, their customers, the Tacoma community.
Tuan and Cici Ngo say the existing dock, now on the verge of collapse, is used by some of the community's less fortunate residents for fishing and transportation and by the area's children for swimming.
A safe and functional dock is vital to the well-being of residents of some of the residents of the southern Vietnam community. Tuan Ngo, a practicing architect, has designed an upgraded dock that can be built for $9,000.
"Every year when we visit Vung Tau, we try to do something for the town that is in need," said Tuan Ngo. "Previously we were able to build a new dining hall for the Vung Tau orphanage, and we were overjoyed to see the difference it has made in the lives of so many young ones," he said.
The nail spa will donate its day's proceeds Oct. 9 to the dock project. Donations are being accepted at the salon and at the salon's website, www.nailsalontacoma.com/community.
