State lifts burn ban, says some Pierce County smoke Wednesday from controlled burns

Staff writerSeptember 18, 2013

Some smoke around Pierce County Wednesday was from controlled burns, according to tweets from the state Department of Natural Resources. Residents can follow them at @waDNR_fire to get burn updates via twitter.

• NEW #WaWILDFIRE - today Sept. 18, Glacial Heritage controlled burn, NW of Rainier, smoke may be visible from HWY 507 & 510 and I-5

• NEW #WaWILDFIRE - today Sept. 18, #JBLM Fish & Wildlife controlled burn starting 1pm - 1/2m NW of Military & Rainier Rd (Pierce County), species/habitat preservation @JBLM_PAO

The agency also lifted its statewide burn ban on DNR protected lands Wednesday, due to lower temperatures and increased rain that lessened fire danger.

This does not affect local fire restrictions, which can be checked here.
