Collision with pickup truck kills motorcyclist near Sumner

A motorcyclist died Saturday night at the scene of a head-on collision south of Sumner, East Pierce Fire & Rescue reported.

A department news release said that the motorcycle collided with a pickup truck around 7:45 p.m. in the 15400 block of Pioneer Way East, also known as state Route 162.

East Pierce Fire & Rescue firefighters transported one of the two people in the pickup truck to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The other person in the truck was uninjured.

Both lanes of Pioneer Way East were closed while the Washington State Patrol investigated the crash.
