Man arrested in connection with friend's death in Tacoma's North End released from jail

UPDATE as of 4 p.m. The man who died was Kendall Thompson, 44 of Tacoma, the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office said. The cause and manner of his death is still being investigated.

INITIAL POST: A 35-year-old man arrested Monday in connection with the death of his friend at a home in Tacoma’s North End was released from jail and will not immediately face charges.

Pierce County Deputy Prosecutor Phil Sorensen said he is waiting on further investigation that could take up to six weeks. He will make a final charging decision then.

Tacoma police were called to a house in the 2600 block of N. 30th Street about 1 a.m. Monday and found the 44-year-old victim dead.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet identified the man or determined how he died.

Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said detectives are investigating the death as a homicide. She declined to discuss what led up to the death, citing the ongoing investigation.
