A man was critically injured Wednesday morning in a three-car collision on state Route 512 in Puyallup, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

The accident happened about 8:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes just west of the 9th Street Southwest overpass.

State trooper Guy Gill said the crash was caused by drivers speeding, following too closely and not paying attention to the road.

Central Pierce Deputy Fire Marshal Guy Overby said one driver had to be extricated and was taken to Tacoma General Hospital in critical condition.

The other two drivers suffered minor injuries.

Westbound SR 512 was shut down in the area for 45 minutes while troopers investigated the accident.
