Sewer repairs along Grandview Drive in University Place start today

Staff writerSeptember 25, 2013

A project repairing 9,600 feet of sewer pipe and about 30 manholes begins today in University Place, according to Pierce County Public Works and Utilities.

The work will extend along Grandview Drive West from Heitman Way West to 64th Street West. It will continue down 64th Street West to just west of Chambers Creek Road West.

Completion isn’t expected until the end of April.

Crews will be fixing a corroded 30-inch diameter interceptor sewer pipe in hopes of reducing leaks. The repairs should also make the pipe last an additional 25 years.

An above-ground bypass pipe will be installed first to divert sewer flow during the project. A new pipe liner is also being installed to reduce the need to dig out large chunks of road, which would cause extended road closures.

During the work, parts of the road will be limited to a single lane and the bike lane will be closed. Minimal traffic delays are expected, the county said.
