The driver of a semitrailer carrying pumpkins and apples died Wednesday when he lost control of the vehicle and it hit an overpass column in Sumner, according to the State Patrol.
Robin Wills, 74 of Olympia, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened about 1:30 p.m. on the exit ramp from southbound state Route 167 to eastbound state Route 410, troopers said.
The exact cause of his death had not yet been determined by the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office.
Troopers were investigating what caused the wreck.
"We are thinking it could have been a medical incident that caused it," State Patrol spokesman Guy Gill tweeted.
The crash caused the semi, hauling 40,000 pounds of produce, to tip over.
The ramp was partially blocked for hours as crews investigated.
No other vehicles were involved.
