Olympia man driving truck dies in Sumner crash

September 26, 2013

The driver of a semitrailer carrying pumpkins and apples died Wednesday when he lost control of the vehicle and hit an overpass column in Sumner, according to the State Patrol.

Robin Wills, 74, of Olympia, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 1:30 p.m. on the exit ramp from southbound state Route 167 to eastbound state Route 410, troopers said.

The exact cause of his death had not yet been determined by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The crash caused the semi, hauling 40,000 pounds of produce, to tip over.

Troopers were investigating what caused the wreck. “We are thinking it could have been a medical incident,” State Patrol spokesman Guy Gill tweeted.
