Encounters between California sea lions and people have gotten increasingly violent near the coastal town of Westport.
There have been reports of sea lions chasing people and at least one pet killed. Dead sea lions have also been found on beaches with bullet fragments in their skulls.
KOMO News reported Wednesday that the source of the problem is discarded fish left by charter fishing boats.
Now the Westport Aquarium is hoping to raise awareness against feeding the sea mammals. The aquarium received a $10,000 grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to launch a public awareness campaign. The Associated Press
