Harold Friedman was a Stadium High School student when he attended the appearance of President John F. Kennedy at Cheney Stadium on Sept. 27, 1963.
Friedman, who said he remains inspired by the speech, said he obtained this footage from the Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston some years ago and had the VHS tape converted to a computer file. The footage does not appear in the library's index, and staff members have not been able to find a copy of this tape or other footage of the event.
The 17-minute tape appears to be from KTNT coverage and includes the final minute of Kennedy's speech and then his slow journey through the crowd to the Marine helicopter that brought him to the event.
KTNT and The News Tribune were owned by the same company at the time.
The News Tribune searched for photos and film of the appearance and included them in our coverage of the anniversary. This footage, however, was not found until Friedman contacted the staff. He thinks it has not been available to the public until now.
