The first State Farm employees to work in their new offices in downtown Tacoma show up Monday.
Word on the street (read: dozens of employees, government workers and private business people) resulted in a flood of tips to The News Tribune this morning that Monday was the starting day for about 350 people the company has recently hired. The tipsters said folks would be working at the former Russell Investments headquarters at 909 A St., one of two locations the company is now leasing.
Company spokesman Brad Hilliard wouldn't confirm the number or location, but did confirm the date.
"On Monday, State Farm will begin the initial move in phase for the two buildings in Tacoma," he wrote in an email Friday afternoon. "The Tacoma operations will have several hundred associates in place by December to begin servicing our customers. Employee numbers will fluctuate as our customer needs will determine our staffing levels. Between now and December employee training will be taking place in the Tacoma facilities."
State Farm announced this spring it would employ up to 1,100 people downtown, both in the former Russell building and at the Columbia Bank Center at 1301 A St.
