Tacoma Public Schools will launch a text-message service beginning Tuesday to enhance communication with parents and guardians.
The new service will add to the district’s existing communication methods rather than replace it. Parents whose cellphone numbers are on file with the district will automatically receive an initial text message Tuesday asking if they’d like to opt in to receive future texts. Instructions will be included in the text message.
If parents don’t receive the text message, that means the district doesn’t have their cell number on file. If those families want to opt in to the new text-alert service, they should call their child’s school directly to add a cell number or numbers.
