Police had not made any arrests Sunday as they searched for five men allegedly involved in an altercation in which a Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier was fatally stabbed Saturday in Lakewood.
Lakewood police Lt. Chris Lawler said there were no updates on the investigation into the death of 20-year-old Spc. Tevin A. Geike.
Geike was walking with two other soldiers about 2:30 a.m. in the 12500 block of Pacific Highway Southwest when one of five black men in a passing car yelled a racial insult at the white servicemen, police said.
One of the men walking yelled back something about those in the car disrespecting combat soldiers.
The vehicle stopped, and after a brief discussion, the five men returned to their car. Geike appeared to be bumped by one of them, and his friends realized he’d been stabbed, police said. He died at the scene.
Geike was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2-158th Assault Helicopter Battalion, 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, 7th Infantry Division, the base said. The Summerville, S.C., native joined the Army in October 2010.
His decorations and awards are: The National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Aviation Badge.firstname.lastname@example.org
