Sumner police on Monday were seeking witnesses to a hit-and-run accident that critically injured a young woman Saturday.

The woman was crossing the street in the 2700 block of East Valley Highway when she was hit by a vehicle that kept going, police said.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage of the incident, which happened just before 11 p.m. Saturday, and said the vehicle appears to be a dark, small sedan or sports car. They initially believed it was an SUV.

The vehicle likely will have damage to the front end and windshield, police spokeswoman Carmen Palmer said.

The woman, in her early 20s, was listed in critical condition Monday.

Anyone who saw the accident or has information on the suspect or the vehicle is asked to call police at 253-299-5678.
