Blanco to test free agency

The Sports NetworkOctober 10, 2013

Seattle Mariners catcher Henry Blanco has refused an outright assignment to the minors and elected to test free agency.

The club made the announcement on Thursday.

Blanco, 42, hit a paltry .142 with three homers and 14 RBI in only 50 appearances between the Blue Jays and Mariners this past season. The Jays released the backup backstop on June 11 and the M's picked him up three days later.

A native of Venezuela, Blanco has logged 971 career games and batted .223 with 72 homers, 145 doubles and 298 RBI over 16 seasons for the Dodgers, Rockies, Brewers, Braves, Twins, Cubs, Padres, Mets, Diamondbacks, Toronto and Seattle.
