Goodsell joins council in Fircrest

Fircrest has a full-size City Council once again after the appointment of David Goodsell to a position that had been vacant for nearly three months.

Goodsell was appointed by the council in a 6-0 vote Monday to replace longtime council member Robert Thaden, who died in July. Goodsell will serve the remainder of Thaden’s term, which expires at the end of 2015.

The council interviewed 13 applicants for the vacant seat and settled on Goodsell because of “an excellent blend of professional and personal experience that will serve our citizens well,” Mayor David Viafore said.

Goodsell, 36, is a commercial real estate broker at CBRE in Tacoma and spent 10 years as an assistant football coach at Bellarmine Preparatory School. He and his wife, Kelly, have three young children. They’ve lived in Fircrest more than six years.

“It is an honor to receive this appointment to the Fircrest City Council,” Goodsell said in a statement. “My family loves this city, which has a well-deserved reputation for an outstanding quality of life.”
