Sex offender in court after Auburn police say he texted detective posing as 15-year-old

Staff writerOctober 16, 2013

A Level 3 sex offender was in court Wednesday after he allegedly asked, for sexual purposes, to meet an Auburn detective posing as a 15-year-old girl.

Auburn police drove to Bellingham to arrest the 22-year-old man, who they said was expecting to meet the girl for sex.

His bail was set at $200,000, after probable cause was found for the charge of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, police said.

According to police, the man started texting the undercover detective two weeks ago, and his messages because increasingly sexually suggestive and graphic.

Officers said he has two previous convictions for second-degree assault with sexual motivation and third-degree rape.

That makes the latest charge a class C felony, the department said.

By contacting a juvenile female, he violated his Department of Corrections restrictions, according to Auburn police.
