This week: Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, through Sunday, TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas.
In the field: Puyallup’s Ryan Moore, Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley, University Place’s Michael Putnam and Olympia’s Andres Gonzales.
First-round scores: Stanley shot a 4-under-par 67, Moore had a 2-under 69, and Gonzales and Putnam each shot 2-over 73.
Positions: Stanley is tied for 20th, Moore is tied for 51st, and Gonzales and Putnam are tied for 112th – all trailing leader J.J. Henry (60).
Recap: That is a 4-of-5 start in under-par rounds for Stanley in the new season. He was 4 under over his final 10 holes Thursday – including a birdie at No. 15, where his drive reached the green at the par 4 and he two-putt from 30 feet. Moore got off to a decent start in defense of his tournament crown – just not the start he got off to last season when he opened with a 61. Most of his action came on the par-5 holes (two birdies, one bogey). This was certainly not the score anybody expected from Putnam or Gonzales, who know this layout well. Putnam bogeyed Nos. 2 and 3 with similar three-putts from 45 feet to quickly fall to 2 over, and Gonzales went birdie-free – with bogeys at the third and 11th holes.
Tee times Friday: Stanley at 7:23 a.m. (PDT) off the first tee; Putnam at 8:11 a.m. off the 10th tee; Gonzales at 8:20 a.m. off the first tee; and Moore at 11:58 a.m. off the first email@example.com
