THE SEATTLE TIMESOctober 20, 2013

One man was killed Saturday in this collision on Highway 2.

A 22-year-old Federal Way man died Saturday and his pregnant passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries after the Mercedes the man was driving made an illegal pass on Highway 2, colliding with an oncoming truck, according to the Washington State Patrol.

At about 4:15 p.m. the car driven by Denis Sokolik crossed double-yellow lines on a curve, nine miles east of Gold Bar and collided with a maroon pickup driven by a 64-year-old East Wenatchee man, the patrol said.

The truck jumped the guard rail and landed in a ditch, injuring the driver and two passengers – 54 and 70 — who were also from East Wenatchee. The three men were transported to Harborview Medical Center.

The 22-year-old passenger in the Mercedes was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett for treatment of serious injuries, according to the patrol.

The highway was blocked for nearly four hours.
