Pierce County wins jail lawsuit filed by inmate

October 26, 2013

A Pierce County jury has rejected a former jail inmate’s claims of negligence and medical malpractice during his two-month stay in the county jail in 2008.

The prosecutor’s office won the lawsuit Thursday. The man who filed the lawsuit had been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

While in jail, he was treated for foot problems, which the prosecutor says appeared to be healing before his release.

Medical records show he was diagnosed with many medical complaints during 2006 and 2007 and his doctor called him a “non-compliant patient.”

The jury rejected all of his claims. He had asked for $1.9 million. Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said the county is taking a strong stand against frivolous lawsuits.
