Stray sailboat beached along Ruston Way

Staff writerOctober 27, 2013

An unmanned sailboat washed up on the rocks along Ruston Way Sunday, just west of McCarver Street.

Crews responded about 3:30 p.m. by land and by water, Tacoma Fire Battalion Chief Dyre Fudge said; Firefighters on the shore and on the Tacoma Fireboat Destiny made sure no one was on the stray sailboat.

The beached boat is a blue, 20-foot vessel, and police were trying to track down the owner, Fudge said.

Crews plan to tether the boat to the shore, to keep it from floating away when the tide changes, he added.
