Five escape Tacoma house fire

Staff writerNovember 1, 2013

Five people escaped their Tacoma home Thursday morning after blankets kept too close to the baseboard heater started a fire, according to the Fire Department.

The fire was reported about 7 a.m. at a home in the 2100 block of S. Wilkeson Street.

Crews doused flames coming from the back of the 1,000-square-foot home and discovered the family inside got out safely thanks to smoke alarms.

Damages are estimated at $38,000.
