Couple killed in Lakewood fire identified

Staff writerNovember 1, 2013

A Lakewood couple killed in an apartment fire early Wednesday has been identified as Leroy and Ruth Williams.

Investigators have not determined what started the blaze at the Morningtree Park apartments on 83rd Ave. SW, destroying the Williams’ unit and damaging two others.

Leroy Williams, 64, made it out of his apartment and yelled for help but went back inside to assist his 78-year-old wife, who had been ill and wasn’t mobile.

Firefighters discovered their bodies after extinguishing the fire.

Nobody else was injured. Six people were displaced.
