Tacoma schools on lookout for highly capable kids

The News TribuneNovember 4, 2013

Parents in the Tacoma School District who are interested in having their child evaluated for possible participation in a highly capable program next year can submit a referral form through Nov. 20.

Teachers and community members can nominate a student, but parents must give permission. Testing, which takes place in January, and participation in the program are free.

Highly capable students through second grade are served by their primary teacher. The school district offers several highly capable programs for older elementary school students, including a pull-out model, a full-time, self-contained classroom and a multi-age classroom. Available space in each program varies from year to year.

The district also offers highly capable support services for middle and high school students.
