Orting man, 21, shot and killed leaving birthday party east of Tacoma

Staff writerNovember 4, 2013

A 21-year-old Orting man was shot and killed Saturday as he was leaving a birthday party east of Tacoma, Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said Monday.

Victor Zaldivar was a guest at the party in the 3700 block of 40th Avenue East, just off River Road East. As he was leaving about 1:30 a.m., he was “ambushed and shot,” Troyer said.

There had been a dispute earlier when several uninvited guests were told to leave the party, and investigators believe they were the shooters, and that they waited for Zaldivar, Troyer said. Some of the uninvited guests were known to those at the party, and others were strangers, he added.

Detectives are following leads and have identified people of interest, he said, but they have made no arrests.
