STEILACOOM: $3.2 million remodel scheduled to begin

November 11, 2013

The Steilacoom School District will remodel its oldest building — formerly home to Pioneer Middle School and, before that, a K-8 school — for use as administrative offices. Landscaping and parking also will be added.

Jones & Roberts. Co. of Olympia will start work on the $3.2 million project in mid-November.

It includes demolishing 1950s-era classroom wings and the gymnasium, and upgrading other parts of the building that were added in the 1990s.

The project requires the temporary relocation of two community groups that use space in the school building.

The local Kiwanis will meet at Saltar’s Point Library, and the Steilacoom Food Pantry is now located in Oberlin Congregational Church.
