Injuries minor for man stopped by police K-9 in Puyallup after alleged shoplift, police pursuit

Staff writerNovember 11, 2013

A 25-year-old shoplifting suspect suffered minor injuries when he allegedly tried to elude police and was stopped by a Puyallup police K-9 Sunday, the department said.

"A K-9 deploys on an elude," spokesman Scott Engle said, but not for reckless driving or shoplifting, of which he said the man is also suspected.

Police say about 6 p.m. the man shoplifted from the Macy's at the South Hill Mall and fled in a vehicle, which he crashed as they pursued him near the 2000 block of 9th Street Southwest.

When he tried to flee on foot after the crash, the K-9 was deployed, Engle said.

The suspect was then taken to the hospital for his injuries.
