Lakewood woman, 86, attacked in home by burglar

Staff writerNovember 18, 2013

An elderly Lakewood woman was dragged from her bed Saturday night by a man who wanted her purse, police said.

The woman had just gotten into bed when she heard somebody kicking in her front door in the 10500 block of Douglas Street Southwest. The intruder “dragged her from bed down the hallway into her kitchen,” Lt. Chris Lawler said.

The woman directed him to her purse, which contained her wallet and checkbook. He then fled.

Police used a tracking dog to search the area and arrested a suspicious man lurking nearby because he had an outstanding warrant. It’s unknown if he’s the same man who broke into the woman’s home.

The victim was unable to identify the man as her attacker because it was too dark in her house when he broke in. The burglary happened at 11:15 p.m.
