Pierce County sheriff’s detectives on Thursday were investigating the death of a man whose body was found outside the Fox Island Grocery.

Investigators said they were treating the death as a homicide.

A store employee found the body just before 6 a.m. and notified a Washington State Patrol trooper who had stopped at the market to get gas, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The victim is a 23-year-old Gig Harbor man but his name was not released.

Detectives declined to speculate how he was killed.

“We’re continuing to work it,” Troyer said of the case.
