San Juan, PR (SportsNetwork.com) - Shawn Lester and Ben Cherry led the way for Charlotte, each scoring 18 points in an 86-77 victory over Northeastern in the semifinals of the Puerto-Rico Tip-Off.
Ben Cherry shot 6-of-7 from three, all coming in the first half of play, while Lester shot 3-of-5 from distance, including a solid 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Charlotte (4-1) was led by a balanced scoring attack in the game. Terrence Williams finished the contest with 13 points and five assists, Pierria Henry added 11 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the free throw line and Willie Clayton and Mike Thorne Jr. each finished with 10 points apiece.
Charlotte took a 43-34 lead into the half, but Northeastern (2-3) battled back and tied the game at 56-56. Terrence Williams netted seven points during a 16-5 run later in the half to put Charlotte ahead for good, 75-63, with 1:44 remaining.
Scott Eatherton and Reggie Spencer led the way for Northeastern, each recording a double-double. Eatherton finished with a game-high 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Spencer finished with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Demetrius Pollard added 14 points, while T.J. Williams chipped in with 12 points in the contest.
Charlotte will take on the winner of the (14) Michigan/Florida State contest on Sunday in the title game.
