A University Place teenager died after he lost control of the car he was driving in icy conditions just before 8 a.m. Sunday in Tacoma, the State Patrol said Monday.

Zackary Davis, 18, was headed west on state Route 16, approaching South Sprague Avenue, when the 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier he was driving hit the right jersey barrier, and stopped on the right shoulder, troopers said.

A 1995 Chevrolet Camaro followed, losing control and hitting the Cavalier, according to the State Patrol. The second driver was not injured.

Charges are being investigated. Speed caused the crash, troopers said.
